THE ART OF THE PROMO:
AN INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT, IDENTITY, & STORY.
This portion of the course serves as an introduction to professional wrestling and the philosophical and biological disciplines.
Students will explore topics and questions such as:
Wrestling History
How has professional wrestling changed over time?
What parts of our social history have been incorporated into wrestling story lines?
Why is wrestling a unifying topic for the discussion of Human Biology and Philosophy?
Philosophy
What is personal identity?
How can we use wrestling story lines to explore synchronic and diachronic identity?
How do sport and story shape popular culture?
Human Biology
What are " genes" and how do they influence our identity?
How can understanding the human body improve our life experiences?
Students will be introduced to the Avatar Term Project at the end of the unit. They will begin the process of designing their own wrestling personas!
